VEHICLE DESCRIPTION
This 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 was the subject of a 2019 refurbishment that involved overboring the 4.2-liter inline-six and overhauling the four-speed manual transmission, the dual-range transfer case, and the axles. An Old Man Emu suspension lift kit was installed, the body was refinished in Cadet Blue, and the interior was refreshed with coral upholstery. Other details include 15″ steel wheels with 31″ tires as well as Aisin locking front hubs, a rear-mounted spare, a beige soft top, and power-assisted steering. Acquired by the current owner in 2022, this FJ40 is now offered on dealer consignment in Idaho with a binder of refurbishment documentation and a clean Wyoming title.
The bodywork was media-blasted, and areas of rust were repaired prior to a repaint in the Toyota shade of Cadet Blue. The paintwork is complemented by a beige soft top. The frame was powder-coated, while hardware and trim pieces were refurbished or replaced as needed. The windshield, bumpers, and lighting assemblies are replacements.
A Man-A-Fre Old Man Emu lift kit was utilized, and the truck rides on 15″ wheels mounted with 31×10.50″ Nankang Mudstar Radial M/T tires. A matching spare is mounted out back. The Aisin locking front hubs were also rebuilt, and power-assisted steering was added.
Interior metal surfaces were finished to match the body, and the floors were covered with coordinated bedliner material. Coral upholstery was used to cover the front bucket seats and the inward-facing rear jump seats. Other work involved refurbishing the lower dash pads, heater box, and window regulators.
The refinished instrument cluster houses a 100-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 1,200 miles, which represents the miles added since the work was completed. Approximately 300 miles have been added under current ownership.
The 4.2-liter 2F inline-six was overhauled with .030″-over pistons and a replacement oil pump, camshaft, bearings, and gaskets. Other components include a three-row radiator, HEI distributor, gear-reduction starter, and Weber carburetor. The oil was changed in preparation for the sale.
The four-speed manual transmission and the transfer case were resealed during the work, the flywheel was resurfaced, and the pressure plate, clutch, and release bearing were replaced. The axles were also resealed, and the U-joints were replaced. A ceramic-coated six-into-one header was installed.
